Banner Supply is the target of a statewide class action lawsuit filed by two Florida law firms that seek to consolidate thousands of Chinese drywall claims against the Miami company, according to the Miami Herald.
The lawsuit alleges that Banner Supply, which sold defective Chinese drywall to builders around the state, knew in 2006 about potential issues with the drywall and failed to inform homeowners about the problem even as it worked with the manufacturer to replace some of the Chinese drywall, reports the Herald. Attorneys Ervin Gonzalez of Colson Hicks Edison and Mike Ryan of Krupnick Campbell Malone Buser Slama Hancock Liberman & McKee filed the lawsuit.
The Herald reports that in June a Miami-Dade jury awarded $2.5 million to a Florida couple represented by Gonzalez for Chinese drywall damages to their home. Defective drywall made in China has been associated with the release of toxic sulfur compounds that smell bad, damage appliances and wiring, and may cause sickness. Problems with Chinese drywall have been reported by thousands of homeowners.
