A routine work day for a Philadelphia-area man ended in tragedy when an accident left him paralyzed and in need of extensive nursing care. Now he has been awarded what his attorney believes may be one of the largest workers’ compensation settlements in the nation.
Construction worker Joseph Tusci was working for Liberty Construction as a flagman when he was hit by a car while directing traffic, the Pennsylvania Record reports. The 31-year-old suffered severe injuries that left him paralyzed from the neck down as a result of the accident.
Tusci was awarded $3 million dollars in workers' compensation that was based on his future financial security and medical needs. He was previously awarded $58 million from a third-party settlement.
