A Georgia jury awarded $9.8 million in a wrongful death lawsuit to a couple whose child drowned while attending a home daycare that claimed to be a licensed facilty.
According to The Weekly, the parents enrolled their their 23-month-old son in a daycare in Buford. The boy got into an above-ground pool on the property and drowned in 2009.
One of the daycare's operators told the boy's mother she had applied for a home daycare license and was awaiting its approval. However, a state employee contested this statement, alleging that the facility had never applied for a license.
