A botched surgery that caused the death of a Las Vegas resident has led the woman’s family members to file a wrongful death lawsuit against the couple who performed the procedure in the back room of a tile store.
According to the Associated Press, Ruben Dario Matallana-Galva and his wife, Carmen Olfidia Torres-Sanche performed a buttock augmentation surgery on 42-year-old Elena Caro in the back room of a tile store. However, Caro experienced an allergic reaction to the anesthesia she was given prior to the buttock augmentation surgery and passed away soon after. Caro had received facial injections from Matallana-Galva one week earlier and reportedly suffered no ill effects from it.
Wrongful death lawsuits against the couple were filed last month by Caro’s husband and two children. They are seeking unspecified damages from the owners of the tile store and a beauty salon that allegedly referred Caro to the couple for the procedure.
Matallana-Galva and Torres-Sanche were each convicted of conspiracy, practicing medicine without a license, and the involuntary manslaughter last October. They were each sentenced to nine years in prison.
