A nursing home abuse lawsuit has been filed against a Wisconsin nursing home by a woman who claims that the staff failed to properly care for her mother.
According to the Madison Record, Sylvia Mayes alleges that her mother Lydia Srnek developed a urinary tract infection while living in the Edwardsville Health Care Center Investor’s nursing home. The complaint claims Srnek’s UTI was left untreated by the nursing home and eventually developed into a serious medical condition.
The nursing home abuse lawsuit states that Srnek was taken to Anderson Hospital on March 12, 2010 after “exhibiting signs of shortness of breath, an altered mental status, severe sepsis, a urinary tract infection, metabolic acidosis, acute kidney failure, significant dehydration and severe malnutrition.”
The complaint states that Mayes' mother developed a blood infection causing her extreme pain and suffering because her UTI remained untreated for a long period of time. Srnek’s condition deteriorated progressively and the she died March 21, 2010.
Mayes places blame on the nursing home for contributing to her mother’s death and claims she lost her mother’s love, affection, companionship, society, guidance, comfort and incurred funeral and medical expenses. She also said that the nursing home failed to realize that her mother was suffering from a UTI, failed to provide her mother with proper nutrition, and failed to notify her of her mother’s condition among other charges of negligence.
