A Texas woman has filed a dangerous drug lawsuit against the makers of the birth control Gianvi - a part of the Yasmin family of oral contraceptives - claiming it caused her to develop a pulmonary embolism.
According to the Pennsylvania Record, 27-year-old Casandra Aline Perez filed her dangerous drug lawsuit on January 10 in Philadelphia’s Court of Common Pleas. After being prescribed Gianvi in December 2010, Perez said she stopped taking the birth control drug in June 2011 and suffered from a pulmonary embolism a month later.
The dangerous drug lawsuit was filed against a Barr Pharmaceuticals, Bayer Corporation, and a number of related units from each of the companies. Some of the charges against the companies include fraudulent concealment, negligence, and violations of consumer fraud protection laws.
