A New Orleans nursing home now faces a nursing home abuse lawsuit from the family of a man who alleges his death there was due to negligent care from the facility's staff.
Milton Aucoin was a patient at the Chateau De Notre Dame in New Orleans, where he was recovering from a stroke. Upon having his care released to the nursing home, the lawsuit contends that Aucoin went two days without receiving blood-thinning medication critical to staving off another stroke. He did not receive proper doses of nineteen other medications as well, the Louisiana Record reported.
As a result of his doctors’ negligence, Aucoin had a second stroke that eventually led to his death ten days later.
The nursing home abuse lawsuit filed by Aucoin’s family charges the facility with improper treatment, untimely treatment, failing to manage care correctly, failing to obtain lifesaving medications, failing to provide alternative measures, and failing to be free of medication errors.
It also alleges that a Department of Health and Human Services survey of Chateau's medication records found unacceptable medication error rates.
