Female 911 operators from Long Island, NY, have been awarded $7 million after winning a workplace discrimination lawsuit that accused Nassau County of paying them a lower salary than men who held similar roles.
According to Fios1 News, the female workers claimed that they were paid about $10,000 less than their male co-workers annually, despite the fact that they held the same positions. The initial complaint was filed in 2005 by about 150 women from the Civil Service Association.
The women are expected to receive between $40,000 and $60,000 each from the county because of the verdict in their favor.
