Costa Crociere SpA has offered $14,460 to each uninjured passenger of the Costa Concordia to compensate them for psychological trauma and lost baggage they endured after the cruise ship crashed into a reef off of Tuscany last month.
According to Fox News, Costa announced the offer after negotiating with consumer groups who were representing 3,206 uninjured passengers who were on the ship. The ship company, which is a unit of Carnival Corp. also said it would reimburse the full cost of the cruise, medical expenses, and return travel expenses.
Some passengers have already refused to accept the deal, stating that they are unable to put a cost on what they have gone through. Others have signed on as injured parties in the criminal case against the captain of the Concordia, Franscesci Schettina, who is under house arrest and being accused of abandoning ship, causing a shipwreck and manslaughter.
