Stork Craft Crib Recall

The Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) has recalled more than 2.1 million drop-side cribs by Stork Craft Manufacturing following 4 deaths of infants due to suffocation. This can occur when the cribs' drop-side plastic hardware breaks, deforms, or parts become missing. In addition, the drop side can be installed upside down, which can result in broken or disengaged plastic parts. All of these problems can cause the drop side to detach in one or more corners. When the drop side becomes detached, it creates space between the drop-side and the crib mattress. The bodies of infants and toddlers can then become trapped in the space which can lead to suffocation. Complete detachment can lead to falls from the crib resulting in numerous injuries. Additional injuries that can occur include:

  • Shoulder Injuries
  • Brain Damage Due to Asphyxiation
  • Bone Fractures
  • Death

The recall involves 1.2 million cribs in the U.S. and almost 1 million in Canada. Nearly 150,000 of the cribs carry the Fisher Price logo. Sales of these cribs can be tracked all the way back to January of 1993. The cribs were being sold at major retailers including BJ's Wholesale Club, Sears and Wal-Mart stores and online through Target and Costco. They were priced between $100 and $400.

If your child was injured as a result of a drop-side crib you may be entitled to compensation.

The CPSC is urging parents not to try to repair these cribs on their own but instead to contact Stork Craft for a free repair kit by visiting their website (http://www.storkcraft.com) or by calling 877-274-0277.
