Prempro Dangers

Prempro has been linked to serious side effects including breast cancer, heart disease, nonfatal heart attacks and blood clots in women taking the drug for Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT).

Prempro, a leading Hormone Replacement Therapy drug, is used to treat post-menopausal hot flashes and other menopause symptoms. However, a major study concluded that long-term use of Prempro significantly increases the risk of stroke, blood clots, heart attacks and breast cancer.

During a study of the long-term health benefits of hormone replacement therapy conducted by The National Institute of Health part of the “Women’s Health Initiative,” researchers concluded that the product had serious risks and halted the study three years early.

As a result, the study is suggesting that many of the women who use Prempro and other estrogen and progestin combinations should talk to their doctors about alternatives.

Specific study findings for the estrogen/progestin combination sold as Prempro compared to placebo revealed that women taking Prempro have a 29% higher risk of heart attack, 41% higher risk of stroke and a 26% higher risk of breast cancer.
