Young Boy with Cerebral Palsy Participates in 5K Run

Jack Huybers was born 11 weeks prematurely and the outlook did not look good. He weighed only 3.1 pounds and spent about 2 months in intensive care. Jack was born with cerebral palsy. Defying the odds, however, Jack is healthy today.

Although Jack lives a full life from his wheelchair, he doesn’t let cerebral palsy stop him from an active lifestyle. Jack enjoys swimming and is a member of the Windermere Swim Team. He also enjoys Tae Kwon Do, participating in a class geared toward special needs children. Furthermore, Jack recently participated in a 5K run with his dad and sister. His father ran and pushed Jack the whole way in his wheelchair. Not an easy task but they accomplished it together.

It’s an inspiring story of how this young boy doesn’t let this tragic disorder stop him from doing what he loves to do. Moreover, how his family encourages him and includes him in every activity they participate in. His story is uplifting and shows that if this 8 year old boy can be so successful and happy then so can so many others with this disease.

Very inspiring story. It’s amazing to see the odds people overcome in their lives. One side note, like theboy in this article, I have cerebral palsy. That said, I wish to point out the technically it’s condition, not a disease. The difference being that it’s impossable to pass CP on genetically or otherwise, and if correctly managed, CP will not get worse. Other than that, the artical is great!

What a wonderful story. Please note, however, that cerebral palsy is not a disease, contrary to what was written in the article. It is caused by an injury to the motor area(s) of the developing brain. It is no more of a disease than a broken arm is.
