NuvaRing is a low-estrogen contraceptive device approved by the FDA in October 2001. NuvaRing is a soft, flexible, two-inch vaginal ring that is worn for three weeks and removed for one week. A combination hormonal contraceptive, NuvaRing combines ethinyl estradiol (the estrogen hormone component) and etonogestrel (the progestin hormone component). Over a three week period the device releases .015 mg ethinyl estradiol and .120 mg etonogestrel per day into the user’s body.
