Yaz Side Effects
Yaz, Yasmin and Ocella are known to cause certain severe, potentially life-threatening side effects. It’s believed that the progestin drospirenone causes levels of potassium in the blood to rise, leading to numerous medical conditions.
Medical Conditions from Yaz Side Effects
- Heart Attack: Yaz can cause blood clots that may lead to a heart attack. The drospirenone in Yaz can cause conditions in the body that may also result in a heart attack. Chest pain is a symptom of Yaz heart attack.
- Stroke: Blood clots caused by Yaz can restrict blood flow to the brain, resulting in a stroke. Symptoms include sudden severe headaches, blurred or double vision, or loss of vision.
- Pulmonary Embolism: Blood clots caused by Yaz can break loose and lodge in the pulmonary artery, blocking blood flow and possibly causing death. Symptoms of a pulmonary embolism are sharp chest pain, coughing up blood, difficulty breathing and heart palpitations.
- Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT): Blood clots caused by Yaz can occur within a deep vein in the legs, arms or pelvis. Symptoms include pain in the legs from Yaz, pain in the arms from Yaz, and swelling in the arms or legs. The condition can also lead to pulmonary embolism.
- Gallbladder Disease: Gallstones caused by Yaz can become trapped in the bile ducts, leading to pancreatitis and gallbladder surgery. Symptoms include sudden, severe pain in the abdomen, pain in the right shoulder, pain between the shoulder blades, jaundice and fever.
- Pancreatitis: Gallstones caused by Yaz can block the flow of digestive enzymes from the pancreas, causing inflammation which can lead to damage to the pancreas. Symptoms include abdominal pain, nausea and vomiting, and fever.
- Hyperkalemia: The drospirenone in Yaz can cause elevated potassium levels in the bloodstream, resulting in kidney damage or kidney failure, which can cause sudden heart failure. There are frequently no symptoms with hyperkalemia, which makes this condition extremely dangerous. Occasionally, symptoms include muscle fatigue, weakness, paralysis, abnormal heart rhythms and nausea.
If you’re experiencing any of the Yaz symptoms and side effects mentioned, or even suspect you have medical issues caused by Yaz, Yasmin or Ocella, please speak to your doctor and seek immediate medical attention.
