Yaz and Deep Vein Thrombosis and Pulmonary Embolism
Many women have been injured by serious and life-threatening medical conditions caused by blood clotting on Yaz, Yasmin or Ocella. These birth control pills are known to increase the risk of developing blood clots in the body. Two related types of blood clotting injuries are deep vein thrombosis (DVT) and pulmonary embolism.
Deep Vein Thrombosis
Veins carry blood which has been depleted of oxygen back to the heart and lungs. The major veins are located deep within the lower legs, thighs and pelvis. When a blood clot (thrombus) develops in one of these veins, it can block the flow of blood and cause pain, swelling, warmth and possibly red skin over the affected area. This inflammation caused by the clot is called thrombophlebitis.
Pulmonary Embolism
A severe complication of deep vein thrombosis occurs when a clot breaks loose and moves (embolizes) through the bloodstream to the lungs, and becomes lodged in the pulmonary arteries. The resulting pulmonary embolism causes difficulty breathing and can result in death if the blockage is significant.
It is important to know the symptoms of deep vein thrombosis and pulmonary embolism and to seek immediate medical attention, which may include blood thinners. Have you been injured by a blood clot while taking Yaz?
