by Sokolove Law

The Illinois Department of Public Health has found the presence of asbestos at Chiddix Junior High School in Normal, Illinois.

According to ENews Park Forest, the independent air tests were performed after the Community Unit School District #5 requested them. Asbestos was found to be present in 10 classrooms at the school. The discovery led to the department recommending that the district immediately isolate and evacuate the classrooms and develop a plan to remedy the situation.

Asbestos exposure has been linked to various lung diseases such as mesothelioma, a rare and aggressive form of lung cancer. There is no known cure for the disease.
