This year marks the 10th annual National Mesothelioma Awareness Day, recognized on September 26. Since its inception, the event has grown from a grassroots movement to become a federally-recognized awareness day in 2010. Each year, people from all over the country come together to honor the victims of mesothelioma and their loved ones.
Many events throughout the year support victims and their loved ones. One that Sokolove Law has repeatedly participated in is Miles for Meso. Since 2009, this annual fun run/walk has helped build awareness for asbestos-related diseases and fund mesothelioma research. Originating in Illinois, the event has grown and more than 6 states now participate in their own Miles for Meso races.
The races are certainly paying off, as more than $250,000 has been raised at Miles for Meso to support the Mesothelioma Applied Research Foundation, a nonprofit that works to find treatments for this deadly disease. Sokolove Law is proud to stand behind the organization again this year and has made a donation to support research efforts.
At Sokolove Law, we recognize that there are a number of ways to raise mesothelioma awareness. For us, it’s not just one day of the year — it’s every single day. To that end, we will continue to bring you updates on mesothelioma research and awareness campaigns. If you would like to get involved in Miles for Meso, find a race near you or donate at www.milesformesothelioma.org.
