Asbestos-Related Diseases: Mesothelioma and Lung Cancer
Mesothelioma is a rare and deadly cancer directly linked to asbestos exposure in mills, shipyards, or in the heating, construction, and automotive industries, as well as the military. Approximately one-third of mesothelioma cases have been shown to involve U.S. Navy or shipyard exposures. There are also documented cases of secondhand asbestos exposure that have caused mesothelioma.
Symptoms of mesothelioma — including persistent cough, chest pains, and loss of appetite — may not begin to appear for 20 to 50 years after exposure. Even though the use of asbestos in building materials and other products peaked more than 30 years ago, this slow-to-develop, incurable and deadly cancer is still being diagnosed.
If you or a loved one has been diagnosed with mesothelioma, you may be entitled to compensation. Compensation usually comes from the companies that manufactured and sold asbestos-containing materials. Although many manufacturers are no longer in business, special court-ordered trusts – estimated at over $30 Billion – have been set up to provide money for mesothelioma victims and their families.
Exposure to asbestos can also cause lung cancer. Even if you or a loved one smoked, you may be at risk for asbestos-related lung cancer as a result of exposure through an occupation or while in the military.
Sokolove Law works in the interest of mesothelioma and lung cancer victims and their families. We bring claims against the manufacturers of asbestos-containing products, not the U.S. government or military. Even if your loved one is deceased, as a family member, you may be able to file a claim.
Auto Accidents and Catastrophic Injuries
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), an accident occurs on our roadways every 5 seconds. Accidents often occur unexpectedly and can result in permanent disabilities or death.
Trauma from an auto accident or catastrophic injury is often irreversible and may include: amputation, brain injuries, spinal cord injuries, severe burns and other catastrophic injuries. Without an attorney, you may not receive the most money you may be entitled to for your injuries. Below are some of the accident case types we handle. If you or a loved one has been hurt in an accident or suffered a catastrophic injury, you may be eligible for compensation.
- Auto Accidents
- Boating Accidents
- Dog Bite Attacks
- Inadequate Security
- Motorcycle Accidents
- Railroad Accidents
- Slip and Falls
- Spinal Cord Injuries
- Sports Concussion and Head Injuries
- Theme Park Accidents

Birth Injury and Medical Malpractice
Every day, patients trust healthcare providers to give advice and care related to a variety of health problems. But sometimes mistakes occur, resulting in permanent, life-changing, or even fatal injury.
A birth injury is any type of injury sustained by an infant as a result of medical error or negligence during pregnancy or childbirth and can often result in a diagnosis of cerebral palsy, Erb’s Palsy, or other brain and spinal injuries. Caring for a disabled child can present serious financial and emotional challenges for a family. Sokolove Law has nurses on staff who are available to listen to your story and discuss the events following your child’s birth.
If you or a loved one was a victim of medical malpractice, you may be entitled to compensation for pain and suffering, medical expenses, life care costs, and lost work wages. Medical malpractice can include failure to diagnose, surgical and anesthesia errors, medication errors, and improper emergency room care.
Dangerous Drugs and Defective Medical Devices
Sometimes drug companies downplay the often serious side effects of the drugs they produce, or fail to do sufficient testing before they take them to market. This has led to many dangerous drug lawsuits in the U.S. The use of prescription drugs can also be dangerous if they are not properly prescribed, causing drug interactions or adverse reactions to the unsuspecting people who take them. If you or a loved one has taken any of the following medications or any other prescription or over-the-counter drugs, and have suffered from serious health problems as a result, you may have a claim.

Defective Medical Devices
Every year, products with known defects, or those that have been recalled, can cause harm —even death — to victims of all ages. The injuries and deaths resulting from defective medical devices continue to rise. Sokolove Law helps victims seek compensation for injuries caused by the use of metal-on-metal hip replacement systems, bone grafts, transvaginal mesh, and other dangerous medical products.
Investment and Stockbroker Fraud
Financial fraud lawsuits can result from damages inflicted through fraudulent securities, or by stockbrokers, financial advisors and brokerage firms that fail to act in your best interest. Stockbrokers and brokerage firms have legal duties to you, the investor. They are required by law to make appropriate investment decisions based on your circumstances and are prohibited from making decisions to benefit themselves at your expense. If you believe your investment losses have been the result of investment fraud or negligence, you may be entitled to recover damages.
Long-Term Disability Insurance Denial
Long-term disability insurance is intended to help support you if you become sick or injured and cannot work. Unfortunately, what should be a straightforward process is anything but simple. Despite paying premiums for years, your insurance company may have unfairly denied your legitimate disability insurance claim, leaving you without a steady income. The longer your insurance company takes to pay your claim, the more money they stand to gain. As the policyholder, delayed or denied benefits can cause you and your family extreme financial hardship and leave you feeling frustrated and overwhelmed.
Nursing Home Abuse
Research by the National Center on Elder Abuse has found that 44% of nursing home residents said they were abused, and 95% said they were a victim of, or witnessed neglect. Elder abuse, also known as nursing home abuse, is often reported late — or not at all — making it hard to know how many victims are really suffering.
Signs of abuse can be difficult to identify, as they are often mistaken for natural signs of aging. Because victims are usually partially or wholly dependent upon caregivers, they may be unable to defend themselves or tell a family member that the abuse occurred. Falls, bedsores, broken bones, dehydration, and malnutrition could all be signs of nursing home abuse or neglect. If you suspect that a loved one is being abused, call Sokolove Law today.
