Northwell Sleep Center Lawsuit & Hidden Cameras
Between 2022 and April 2024, hidden cameras disguised as smoke detectors were placed in bathrooms at the Northwell Health Sleep Disorders Center and Sports Therapy and Rehabilitation Services (STARS) Rehabilitation in Great Neck, NY.
These cameras, which were installed and removed by former sleep center employee Sanjai Syamaprasad during his shifts, captured hundreds of videos of unsuspecting patients, employees, and minors.
Northwell Health notified over 13,000 patients who may have been impacted by this serious breach of privacy. Around 250 lawsuits against Northwell claim they failed to properly supervise their employee or protect patient confidentiality.
By filing a civil lawsuit, those affected by the Northwell Sleep Center privacy breach may be able to seek accountability and pursue compensation for the emotional distress and violation of trust they experienced.

Syamaprasad Pleads Guilty in Sleep Center Surveillance Case
In April 2024, Sanjai Syamaprasad was arrested after law enforcement was informed about his secret recordings at the Northwell Health Sleep Center. A year later, he was indicted by a grand jury.
The case against Syamaprasad advanced significantly in July 2025:
- He pleaded guilty to 5 counts of unlawful surveillance and 2 counts of tampering with physical evidence
- Prosecutors recommended 1 to 3 years in jail for each charge filed against him
- The judge offered 5 years of probation and sex offender registration instead of jail time, citing remorse and the completion of a program
While sentencing will not be formalized until September 15, 2025, the District Attorney has expressed her disappointment with the judge's offer.
"This case deserved jail time. It's not a one-off. It's not one time, one night he did this. It was night after night after night, victim after victim."
– Anne Donnelly, Nassau County District Attorney
Although the criminal case against Syamaprasad is nearing resolution, survivors may also be able to file a civil lawsuit against his employer for failing to notice or prevent this invasion of privacy at their facility.
Who Qualifies for a Northwell Lawsuit?
