Jonathan N. Nelson is a VA-accredited attorney and retired U.S. Marine Corps Major dedicated to helping veterans and families affected by mesothelioma and other asbestos-related diseases.
With over 20 years of military and legal experience, Jonathan has devoted his career to serving others — both in uniform and in the courtroom. A graduate of the University of Virginia and Wake Forest University School of Law, Jonathan began his legal career as a U.S. Marine Corps judge advocate.
During his 15 years of military service, he deployed to Iraq and Kuwait in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom, taught criminal law and trial advocacy at the Naval Justice School, and later served as Staff Judge Advocate for the 2nd Marine Division. His military honors include the Meritorious Service Medal and four Navy-Marine Corps Commendation Medals.
After retiring from the U.S. Marine Corps, Jonathan continued his public service through legal and veterans advocacy work, including handling Freedom of Information Act appeals for the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services and assisting veterans through VA-accredited representation. He has extensive experience helping former service members navigate the VA benefits system, including claims related to mesothelioma and asbestos exposure.
Helping veterans and asbestos exposure victims is a mission close to Jonathan’s heart. His wife’s grandfather was a World War II U.S. Navy veteran, who passed away from mesothelioma after asbestos exposure during military service.
That experience strengthened Jonathan’s resolve to help veterans and families secure the medical care, financial compensation, and support they’re entitled to.
Known for his compassion, discipline, and dedication to justice, Jonathan believes that veterans should never have to fight alone after a devastating diagnosis. He works closely with families to explain their options, helping them pursue benefits more quickly and easily.
“When a veteran's been diagnosed with mesothelioma, they need to know that there's support for them. We are able to provide them with medical information, get them to good doctors and hospitals, and help them to apply for VA benefits, so they are financially taken care of."
