Mirena Lawsuits Growing

Sokolove Law is no longer accepting Mirena IUD cases.

Harmful Mirena Side Effects

The Mirena system uses a T-shaped plastic frame with a well holding the contraceptive hormone levonorgestrel. Bayer Healthcare sold Mirena to assist women who needed a simple birth control method. But the Mirena IUD may be responsible for serious side effects, which include:

  • Uterus perforation
  • Migration outside the uterine cavity
  • Pelvic inflammatory disease (PID)
  • Unwanted pregnancy
  • Birth defects
  • Internal bleeding
  • Death

Since its introduction, the Mirena IUD has been connected with 45,700 reports of serious adverse events. Typically, these involve device expulsion and dislocation, and vaginal hemorrhage.

Plantiffs are claiming that Bayer understated the inherent risks of the Mirena IUD. Bayer didn’t warn the public that Mirena can migrate out of the uterus and into the abdomen, or perforate the internal organs.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration claims that annually Mirena is responsible for one ectopic pregnancy per 1,000 users. Other research indicates up to 60 percent of Mirena patients stop using the device after five years, claiming it causes irregular bleeding and pain.
