Sokolove Law, a national mesothelioma law firm, donated $2,500 to Providence Cancer Institute in Portland, Oregon, to help support cancer research and mesothelioma care. The gift was made to the Shell-Shocked Sprinters, a Hood to Coast Relay team that features Sokolove Law Registered Nurse Andi Lowe.
Providence Cancer Institute has been the primary charitable beneficiary of the Hood to Coast and Portland to Coast relays since 2013. Philanthropy funds about 70% of the institute's cancer research, including the thoracic oncology program that treats mesothelioma.
The Sprinters set a fundraising goal of $12,000 and completed the 196-mile relay from Timberline Lodge on Mount Hood to Seaside, Oregon, on August 29, as part of the event's 44th year.
This year's teams raised more than $1 Million for the institute, the first time the event has cleared seven figures in a single year, bringing the cumulative total to more than $10.5 Million. All of it stays in Oregon, funding cancer research, treatment, and patient support services.
Providence Cancer Institute's Thoracic Oncology Program treats patients with pleural mesothelioma, lung cancer, and other chest cancers, offering multidisciplinary care, minimally invasive thoracic surgery, and clinical trials.
Its research arm, the Earle A. Chiles Research Institute, is known internationally for its advances in immunotherapy — an approach that has expanded options for patients with complex cancers, including mesothelioma.
Mesothelioma is an aggressive cancer caused by asbestos exposure, and symptoms can take 20 to 50 years to appear after the exposure that caused them.
Sokolove Law has successfully helped more than 9,500 families affected by mesothelioma, lung cancer, and other asbestos-related diseases, recently surpassing $6 Billion in recoveries.

Lowe is part of the Sokolove Law team of registered nurses who help clients understand their diagnoses, manage symptoms, and connect with specialists while the firm's legal team handles their claims.
"Running Hood to Coast for Providence Cancer Institute is a way to put something back toward the treatments and support programs those families depend on," explained Andi Lowe, RN.
Donations to the Shell-Shocked Sprinters benefited cancer patients, survivors, caregivers, and families receiving care through Providence Cancer Institute, funding research initiatives, treatment advancements, and patient support programs.
