Benicar® (Olmesartan) as well as Benicar HCT®, Azor®, and Tribenzor® are prescription blood pressure medications used to lower high blood pressure. Recently, they have also been linked to serious side effects, especially severe gastrointestinal problems.
Have you, or a loved one, suffered serious side effects related to the use of the blood pressure medication Benicar? If so, you may be entitled to compensation.
Benicar side effects include:
- Sprue-like Enteropathy or Colitis
- Chronic Diarrhea
- Weight Loss
- Nausea
- Vomiting
- Dehydration
These serious side effects can sometimes take months or years to develop. In some instances, the gastrointestinal problems resulting from these drugs have been severe enough to require immediate medical attention or hospitalization.
FDA Issues Warning
In 2013, the FDA issued a drug safety communication warning the public about these side effects, and approved changes in the drugs’ labels to make sure these issues are clearly spelled out. The FDA reports that numerous, serious cases have been found, and cites research from the Mayo Clinic linking these drugs to severe gastrointestinal problems.
