Reginald Archibald & Rockefeller University Hospital Abuse
From the 1940s to the 1980s, Dr. Reginald Archibald worked as a pediatric endocrinologist at Rockefeller University Hospital in New York City. He studied and treated issues related to childhood growth and maturation.
Dr. Archibald allegedly sexually abused hundreds of young patients during their appointments. The hospital admittedly waited years to inform former patients about their knowledge of the abuse.
Rockefeller University Hospital reportedly received complaints about Dr. Archibald's misconduct as early as the 1960s — but allowed him to continue working with children unsupervised for decades.
Although Dr. Archibald retired in 1982 and later passed away in 2007, survivors may still be able to file a civil lawsuit against his estate and Rockefeller University for failing to prevent the abuse.
If you or a loved one suffered abuse by Reginald Archibald, Sokolove Law is here to support you and help you work toward closure.

What Did Reginald Archibald Do?
Dr. Reginald Archibald is accused of using his role as a medical specialist to gain the trust of families. Many of his patients were young boys referred to him by their parents for concerns about growth and development.
At the time of the abuse, some of his patients were toddlers, according to court documents.
Medical sexual assault lawsuits against Dr. Archibald claim he:
- Fondled his patients
- Had them masturbate in front of him
- Photographed children in sexually suggestive positions
- Touched patients while they sat naked in his lap
- Took semen samples without any professional reason
Many of the survivors said the abuse happened in Dr. Archibald’s examination room. At least one former patient claimed the doctor drugged and raped him in his private cabin in Canada.
He’s also accused of using his status as a medical professional to get access to children at the Madison Square Boys & Girls Club in New York City and other local youth groups.
Rockefeller University Hospital & Abuse
Although Archibald retired in 1982 and died in 2007, the Rockefeller Hospital University should have done more to prevent him from abusing patients. As a result, families may also be able to take legal action against the hospital.
Investigations revealed that Rockefeller’s Physician-in-Chief had received multiple complaints from patients about Archibald’s behavior.
The Physician-in-Chief found out about Archibald's questionable examination methods, which included measuring his patients' flaccid and erect penises — but he never terminated the doctor.
Rockefeller University Hospital admitted knowing about the allegations in 2004 and said they contacted the authorities and hired a law firm to investigate. The firm found that Archibald's behavior was "likely" inappropriate, uncovering two reports from the 1990s.
However, Rockefeller did not contact Dr. Archibald's former patients or revoke his honors until 2018 — 14 years after confirming that sexual misconduct had more likely than not occurred.
“To know that they knew about this in 2004 and didn’t reach out to people, it’s absolutely outrageous,” said one former patient of Dr. Archibald.
