Allegations of Sexual Abuse Against Dr. Derrick Todd

Dr. Derrick Todd, former chief of clinical rheumatology in the Massachusetts area, has been accused of sexually abusing many patients under the guise of medical care.

Over 100 patients have accused Dr. Todd of sexual assault as of October 2023. These claims date back to incidents that may have taken place as early as 2011.

Lawsuits against Dr. Todd allege he:

  • Performed unnecessary breast, vaginal, and rectal exams on patients
  • Made inappropriate comments and asked unnecessary sexual questions during exams
  • Met with patients outside of typical work hours and texted them repeatedly

Former patients of Todd believe he may have used his status as a medical professional to take advantage of patients with chronic conditions that were difficult to treat. Dr. Todd, who graduated from medical school in 2003, likely saw thousands of patients during his time as a physician.

A class action lawsuit against Dr. Derrick Todd was filed in Suffolk Superior Court on October 11, 2023 — but there is still time for survivors to take a stand and join the litigation.

Hospital Investigation Leads to Dr. Todd’s Resignation

In June 2023, Dr. Todd was placed on administrative leave while the hospital investigated two anonymous complaints that had been filed against him by other physicians.

After the investigation into his conduct had been completed, Dr. Todd was notified that the hospital intended to fire him — and he promptly resigned from his position.

In addition to resigning from his role, Dr. Todd voluntarily gave up his right to practice medicine in Massachusetts or any other state while the Board of Registration in Medicine investigates the claims against him.

In August, the hospital began reaching out to all of Dr. Todd’s former patients to notify them of the allegations against him and provide resources for survivors of sexual assault.
