John, Nevada Construction Worker

An avid golfer and biker, John spent decades working in the construction industry. Throughout his career, he repeatedly came into contact with asbestos-containing products like drywall mud, Sheetrock®, and gaskets.

After being diagnosed with stage 4 pleural mesothelioma, John and his wife Dee learned the connection between his illness and work history. When the couple found out that asbestos-related companies knew the risks of their products, they decided to get help taking legal action.

Hiring Sokolove Law was the smartest thing we ever did,” said John. “Filing the lawsuit was easy because the firm made it easy. We didn’t have to do anything.”

Video Summary: Listen to pleural mesothelioma survivor John discuss his diagnosis and filing a lawsuit with Sokolove Law.

Dee: "The day started out fine. John, we got up, and John, which is unusual for him, just came out of the bedroom and just sat down. And he said I just don't feel good, and I knew something was wrong because John doesn't complain. I said well I think we should probably go to the ER. They found out that there was over 2 liters of fluid on his left lung, and they were amazed that he was even able to breathe period. They did a CAT scan, and that's when he just said you have stage four mesothelioma, John.

John: "I was kind of blank I didn't know what to think. I didn't realize that my job had exposed me to this."

Dee: "We're the Stahls — I'm Dee, and this is my husband John."

John: "My name is John Stahl. I was first exposed to asbestos poisoning through a construction business through sheetrock through gaskets and piping all through my career, and I worked 43 years in construction business. If you don't work, you don't get paid. The first treatment was with chemotherapy, and I went every two weeks. It didn't take long an hour or so, but it'd take me 7 to 10 days to recover. That was hard for me because I'm a pretty active person."

Dee: "Asbestos is poison and it's a prescription for death. Yeah, I don't know. It's not curable, right?"

John: "Well, when I first I didn't really really sink in longer and longer we thought I thought about it, it's going to end my life eventually, but I'm gonna live in as well as I can.

Dee: "It made me mad and sad and to think that these manufacturers could continue knowing that there was asbestos that could hurt people continued to make these products for how many years years and years — and look what it's done to the love of my life. It's heartbreaking. After we got over the shock of the diagnosis and and slept on it that night, the next morning, I said to John, I'm going to call Sokolove Law, the company that I saw on the TV. I contacted them, and they were very compassionate, kind, caring. It was just a great experience."

John: "My kids are going to be taken care of. They're going to be taken care of, so it's a peace of mind knowing that I don't have to worry about them going down the road."

Dee: "I want people out there to realize that there is help, and they can get assistance and get a settlement from these manufacturers that continue to use this and know that it was dangerous for people."

John: "We filed a mesothelioma lawsuit to hold companies accountable. It's important to people who understand that there's help, and there's people there willing to help them go through this process of making these companies liable for what they've caused."

David, California Farmer

Growing up on a farm, David learned to fix tractors, cars, and other mechanical equipment, which often contained asbestos. For several decades, David went about his work without ever knowing he was exposed. He didn’t realize until years later, when he was diagnosed with pleural mesothelioma.

Despite never having taken legal action before, David decided to call Sokolove Law after seeing a commercial on TV. Soon after, a member of our team traveled to his home to discuss his case in person and explain what to expect.

I'd recommend anyone choose Sokolove Law because they sent people out within a day, and the firm got us a settlement that will take care of us for the rest of our lives,” said David.

Meet David, a Farmer with Mesothelioma Video Thumbnail
Video Summary: Hear why David, a farmer with mesothelioma, decided to file a claim with Sokolove Law.

I started working on stuff when I was seven years old. I worked on Pontiac Tempest and did a head gasket when I was seven. I worked on big trucks and farm tractors and automobiles.

My name is David Rosedale and I got a mesothelioma working on equipment, which would've been brakes, clutches, and gaskets. I started at a young age and been doing it my whole life.

I went into urgent care and I was having kind of a hard time breathing and I thought maybe it was allergies, and when I went to urgent care, they said that the left lung was collapsed, so they rushed me over to the hospital.

I was put in the hospital. They drained two liters out of the left lung. There was a biopsy done when they did that, and then it came back positive for mesothelioma. The doctor that told me that I had mesothelioma. She said, you need to get a lawyer.

And I just happened to look on my phone and I had seen the ad on tv, so I called it when I was in the doctor's office, Sokolove Law sent people out within a day to take my statements and see what was going on, and they got right on it and they handled the case professionally.

To file a lawsuit is worth it because it's a life altering experience and without the compensation, I mean you're pretty well lost. I decided to pursue the mesothelioma lawsuit because I needed to provide for my family and I was not going to be able to work.

Hiring Sokolove Law was a good choice because we were able to get the outcome that we needed.

When I was going through treatment with the legal process, they worked around my treatments and were conscious of my health concerns, so it was not a problem. I would recommend, if you're a victim of this, to pursue litigation — because the big companies knew this was a problem a long ways back, and it was a monetary concern on their part to keep using the product.

The product is still coming in from overseas. It has not stopped, and the damage that it causes is irreversible and you only have one life, so you want to do the best you can for your family.

Ginger, North Carolina Mesothelioma Survivor

When she was just 40 years old, Ginger was diagnosed with mesothelioma, a cancer that usually takes 20-50 years to develop. At the time, her husband was also fighting a brain tumor and couldn’t work. The couple had to explore their legal options to help cover the costs of treatment.

After contacting Sokolove Law, Ginger and her husband decided to move forward with filing a mesothelioma claim. Our team worked to make the legal process as easy as possible, while ultimately securing the compensation they deserved.

“Once the financial weight is off your brain, it’s easier to worry about the things that matter, like my treatments, getting better, and my quality of life,” said Ginger, a 16+ year mesothelioma survivor.

Bob, Idaho Drywaller

A dedicated family man, Bob spent years as a drywaller before becoming a rancher. However, decades of working around powdered mud at job sites caused him to develop mesothelioma later on.

Determined to fight back against the disease, Bob underwent treatment and survived years longer than expected. As the father of 3, he wanted to protect his family’s future, which led him to Sokolove Law.

During the legal process, Bob formed a close bond with his lawyer, who stayed in touch with him long after his case was successfully resolved.

“I’ve never filed a lawsuit before in my life, but it’s been a good experience,” said Bob. “The firm makes you feel like you’re somebody and that you do matter.”

Dennis, Wisconsin Mechanic

Growing up, Dennis spent afternoons helping out at his family’s auto repair shop and learning the tricks of the trade. Over the years, working with brakes, clutches, and other auto parts exposed him to asbestos, something he didn’t know to fear.

Following in his father’s footsteps, Dennis worked as a mechanic until he was diagnosed with peritoneal mesothelioma at the age of 52. No longer able to earn a paycheck, he was advised by his union to contact an asbestos law firm for help seeking compensation.

"I really appreciate Sokolove Law,” said Dennis. “They help you, and they treat you like a person and not a number."

Joe, Louisiana Mechanic

In the 1960s and 1970s, Joe worked at a gas station and later as a school bus mechanic, where he regularly handled brakes, clutches, and other automotive parts that contained asbestos.

Decades later, the loving father and grandfather was diagnosed with epithelioid mesothelioma. Determined to seek financial security for his family, he pursued a claim with Sokolove Law, confident the firm had the experience and resources necessary to handle his case.

When the company responsible for his illness refused to settle, our attorneys were prepared to take his case to trial — and successfully won a significant mesothelioma verdict on his behalf.

Mesothelioma Veteran Testimonials

For much of the 20th century, asbestos was widely used across all branches of the military. As a result, U.S. veterans are at a significantly higher risk of mesothelioma than the general public, with approximately 1 in 3 patients having a military background.

At Sokolove Law, we’ve successfully helped thousands of veterans and their families seek justice, recovering more than $1.3 Billion for veterans with mesothelioma. Around 42% of our mesothelioma clients are veterans.

With VA-accredited attorneys on staff, our team can also help veterans with mesothelioma apply for VA benefits, including $3,930+ per month and free health care. Hear from some of the veterans we’ve helped.

"Veterans with mesothelioma can file lawsuits and VA benefits claims at the same time. I encourage veterans to do both, so they can receive the full compensation they need and deserve."

Walter, U.S. Navy Veteran in Washington

Throughout the 1950s, ‘60s, and ‘70s, Walter served in the U.S. Navy as a boiler tender on multiple ships, something that kept food on his table for decades following his time in the military.

After retiring, he returned to Washington and started his homestead, gardening, hunting, and volunteering in his community. Sadly, Walter’s independent lifestyle was turned upside down after he was diagnosed with pleural mesothelioma.

As he learned more about the disease, Walter discovered that many companies that supplied asbestos-containing materials to the military knew their products were dangerous — and he decided to take legal action.

“I felt very comfortable with my lawyer,” Walter said. “I was watching the way they handled things in the courtroom, and they did good. They were prepared. They could go back to day one, and they had the paperwork to back it up.”

Walter Testimonial Video Thumbnail
Video Summary: Walter, a Sokolove Law client and U.S. Navy veteran, talks about why he filed a mesothelioma lawsuit.

He said, “You have all your paperwork in order?” I said, “Yes I do.” He said, “Well, keep it there” Nobody ever said anything, about it being dangerous. The powers at be knew. I said, “Well, heck with this noise. They’re gonna hear from me.” I wasn’t suing the government, I wasn’t suing the U.S. Navy, I was suing the manufacturer. If you or a loved one has been diagnosed with Mesothelioma, you may be entitled to compensation.

Alan, U.S. Army Veteran

A U.S. Army veteran and father of 4 from Tennessee, Alan worked hard to support his family. However, he was repeatedly exposed to asbestos in his role as a mechanic.

After being diagnosed with pleural mesothelioma, Alan was forced to retire earlier than planned and contacted Sokolove Law for help. He felt confident the firm could help his family understand and navigate the legal process.

Our attorney was fantastic,” said Alan. “They had both experience and passion. The firm knows what they're doing, and they truly care about their clients.”

A U.S. Army Veteran’s Fight Against Mesothelioma Video Thumbnail
Video Summary: Find out why Alan and his wife Constance chose to seek compensation after his mesothelioma diagnosis.

My favorite memory is standing at her door and seeing her walk in from the other room. The first time we ever met, a month after that we started dating, and a month after that we got married. I love you. Love you.

My name’s Alan Bonnan. My name is Constant Bonnan. I never thought I would be affected by something like mesothelioma. As an infant, my dad worked on a hydroelectric dam. As I got older, I would help him with brake jobs. Back then, asbestos was the thing for brakes.

The entire household changed once he was diagnosed with mesothelioma. When you’re looking at the man who has been your rock your entire marriage and to see him laid open like that… Yeah, mesothelioma changed our lives drastically.

He was let go from his work. He couldn’t work like that anymore. We should be getting ready for grandkids. We should be planning for our little vacations. We should be doing so many things.

About a month after he was diagnosed with mesothelioma, we contacted Sokolove Law to get them to help us. One of the reasons we need the lawyers is because we don’t speak lawyer. We don’t know the intricate twists and turns that the lawyers understand with our laws. This was new to us. It was amazingly efficient. We would have been lost without the firm coming to our help and being able to say, "We know what to do for you. We know how to file. We know every step you need to take, and we will be there for you." They made that promise to us and they kept it the entire way.

A lot of states have statutes of limitations on filing. Once you find out, he only had a year to be able to file. Otherwise, there are no repercussions for the companies that have done this. They took care of everything because they knew what needed to be done. It’s very important for people to reach out because you do not realize how much it is going to affect you in your day-to-day life. We suddenly had no income coming in. We were worried about what we were going to do for insurance for him because when the job ends, there goes the insurance.

You have to be able to consider every financial expense that you’re having right now, but you also have to think about this is not something that right now is going to be going away and the bills are going to keep coming. What are you going to do 10 years from now, or what is your family going to do when you’re gone? His number one priority since he found out is making sure that I’m taken care of and that our sons are taken care of. He’s a man of strength, honor, stubbornness, and mischievousness, but it’s taking everything and reducing you, and there’s nothing we can do except try to hold those dam waters back.

Just keep fighting, and that’s how we have to look at it. I really don’t care that they say no cure or that they say it’s terminal. I am not going to let it kill me. We filed a mesothelioma lawsuit because we knew it was more than we could handle on our own. These companies need to be held accountable. Hiring Sokolove Law was one of the best decisions we ever made. I would suggest that families use Sokolove Law because they’re an extremely knowledgeable firm. They made sure to match us with somebody who would work well with us. We never felt alone.

Charlie, U.S. Army Veteran

A New Jersey native and U.S. Army veteran, Charlie worked at an oil refinery after his military service. In his roles as a laborer and an electrician, Charlie was exposed to asbestos — and decades later, he was diagnosed with mesothelioma.

After Charlie’s passing, his family decided to file a mesothelioma wrongful death lawsuit. They looked into multiple firms and ultimately chose Sokolove Law based on their strong client testimonials.

They were genuinely caring and took the time to explain everything, ensuring that we fully understood the entire process,” said Charlie's daughter Kelly.

Theodore, U.S. Army Veteran

During the Vietnam War, Theodore was drafted into the U.S. Army and served as a cook in Germany. He was incredibly proud of his military service and often saluted fellow veterans on the streets of New York after returning home.

A father to twin boys, Theodore worked as a mechanic’s assistant and highway maintenance supervisor to support his family. He was routinely exposed to asbestos but had no idea. When he was diagnosed with mesothelioma, he reached out to Sokolove Law for help.

Sokolove Law has done so much for us and helped us navigate this whole situation,” said Theodore’s son Steve. “Even recently, after my father’s passing, they called to see how we were doing. So that was really special. They felt like family.”

A Military Veteran's Mesothelioma Journey Video Thumbnail
Video Summary: Decades after serving in the Vietnam War, Teddy was diagnosed with mesothelioma, a cancer that eventually took his life. His son Steve shares how the family handled the loss and how Sokolove Law was able to help.

My name is Steve, and my father was diagnosed with mesothelioma. He was incredibly proud of being in the military. He was drafted and sent to Germany, where he worked as a cook during the Vietnam War. Being a veteran was his whole life, and it was the proudest thing he shared with people. He would always salute random strangers who were wearing veterans’ hats. When my brother signed up for the military, watching my dad feel that same pride all over again—seeing his son follow the same path he did—was really special. He was a pretty special person.

After he came home from the military, he got a job with the county. He was hired as a mechanic’s helper and worked in a garage where they would blow out brake pads and dust. The brake pads he was changing all contained asbestos. We also had a summer house in Pennsylvania, and one summer he went there to chop wood and take care of things around the house. Suddenly, he couldn’t breathe. It felt like there was a heavy weight on his chest, and he just couldn’t catch his breath.

He ended up going to the hospital, where doctors discovered he had a pleural effusion. There were five liters of fluid in his chest. After surgery, the doctor came in and told us, “You have mesothelioma.”

At first, getting my dad to treatment was fairly easy because he was still somewhat healthy. About a year and a half in, it became much harder. Physically, he just wasn’t able to handle it anymore. Every three weeks he had treatment, and every other week he had an MRI or CAT scan. It was a constant cycle—treatment, CAT scan, MRI—over and over again. It was draining. It was draining for him, and it was draining for me. It was just a lot to handle.

I’m really upset because I had been looking forward to making him a grandfather. I dreamed of bringing a baby home to him one day, and now I can’t.

There was no reason for him to die. Asbestos is the cause of this entire thing. We decided to pursue a lawsuit because it wasn’t my dad’s fault, and it wasn’t fair what happened to him. He deserved compensation for what he went through.

Hiring Sokolove Law was one of the best decisions we made. The woman I spoke with on the phone made me feel comfortable right away. She made me feel safe, and she was incredibly compassionate and empathetic about our situation. It just felt like the right fit.

The law firm did so much for us. They helped us navigate the entire situation and were always calling to check on how we were doing. They checked on my dad’s treatment and wanted to know how things were going. I developed a real relationship with them. They would call to see how my dad was doing even when they didn’t have to, and that meant a lot.

Even months after my father passed, they still called to check in. They felt like family. We felt like part of their team—that they were truly there to take care of us. It was never about what they were going to get out of it. They genuinely wanted us to feel supported, safe, and cared for while dealing with the diagnosis my dad was given.

Oscar, Trabajador de Construcción en Arizona

Supporting a Loved One Through Mesothelioma Video Thumbnail
Video Summary: Guadalupe and Isabel discuss the loss of Oscar, a loving father and husband with mesothelioma.

So, fuimos juntos a comprar un anillo.

Seeking Mesothelioma Legal Support in Spanish Video Thumbnail
Video Summary: Alicia was able to secure mesothelioma compensation after finding a Spanish-speaking legal team to help with her husband's case.

Empezó a sentirse cansado. Ya no tenía la misma energía. Empezó a adelgazar.
